How much does a pair of prescription glasses cost if I don't have insurance?!

Question: Does it matter than I'm near sighted and i think it's -1.oo?
I'm in new york city and it can barely tell the cross streets sometimes which gets annoying so I want to just swing by a shop and get a pair tomorrow.

usually the exam is about $40 the frames vary (70-150) and the lenses usually cost about 50. I would say about $150 would get you into a pair of RX glasses.

The last time I went without insurance, it was about $400 with the exam, glasses, etc. That is definitely not NYC cost, that is Tennessee cost.

300-4 00 dollers.

If you go to some private optometrist it will be expensive (especially in nyc!) The best place is walmart. Go to walmart! I bought my glasses there for $100 and I think the eye exam was like 50. Is there a walmart in nyc?

Try Lens Crafters (BTW they give a AAA discount) the Dr's appt is like $60., and the glasses will depend on your frame choice and you prescription, but you can count on $100 to $250, they have sales all the time though so you might get lucky. Get them no matter the cost, your eyesight is too important to mess with.

Takes more than a day to get prescription eye glasses

In the interem you can most likely get a pair at Walmart or Kmart

Not good to wear long term tho

If you go to a place called America's Best you can get two pair of glasses for about $150 to $200. That would be for good glasses, not their el-cheapo section.

The cost varies depending upon the facility which does your exam, the price of the frames, the correction required and the fee to grind the lenses to your prescription.

I paid about $350.00 for my last glasses without insurance, but I wear bifocals.

There are discount eye exam places. Check your local yellow pages and look for Optometrists and Opthalmologists.

-1.00 is a minor correction for nearsightedness.

Costco has very affordable frames and has had a good record of filling Rx's accurately in comparison to some other As long as your are not getting a bifocal, which it doesn't appear...then the cost can be mostly dependent on the type of frame you select. Lensecrafters often runs coupons in the Sunday paper, and they also offer some discounts via coupons on-line.
major eyeglass chains.

Lightweight frames will be the easiest to wear for long periods of time, the super light titanium frames (while more expensive) are very comfortable and if you take care of them they will last for years. Rimless can be more expensive, but again are very lightweight.

I've chosen frames for fashion reasons and comfort reasons over the years...but it's the comfortable frames that are really the best.

You can save a little money by not getting tinted lenses, too. Sometimes they try to talk you into slight tints. That can add on extra.

Most people will pay the extra for the anti-reflective coating on the lenses. I have some with and some without, and I'm not sure I really notice that much of a difference...but I can't say for certain.

Some frames offer the ability to clip-on a sunglass in front...which is really nice...avoids having to buy prescription sunglasses specifically and is great those afternoons when the sun suddenly starts shining brightly.

You'll definately be much happier when your eyesight is at peak performance. You'd be surprised just how much you are not "seeing" when you're nearsighted (which means you can see better near). Leaves on trees will suddenly appear with more definition, street signs will appear more distinct, the list goes on and on...but it is AMAZING.

You asked if you could skip the eye exam...
If you have a current prescription from and optometrist or opthamologist (meaning written within one year) then most places will fill the prescription.

However, if your prescription is old, or for any reason in doubt...you DON'T want to spend all that money on something that is already outdated or possibly too weak/strong. I would never get new frames without an eye exam...to much to invest. Plus, it's important to know if you have any astigmatism in relation to the correction for your nearsightedness.

If you have your glasses filled where you get your eye exam, ask them ( eye doctor doing exam) if there's a guarantee...in other words, if the prescription isn't working for you correctly, will they honor that guarantee and do a follow-up to re-evaluate and fill with proper Rx.

I know Sears Optical used to be very good as far as that goes...however, anymore...if you don't ask they won't offer or tell you hidden or specifics in most places!

Sears and local eye-clinics are all less than $300. Once you have your prescription, you can purchase glasses anywhere.
39dollar eyeglasses dot com. This is my favorite website. I've bought about 5 pair from this place, from sunglasses to driving glasses.

it depends on where you go. insurance doesn't cover me either. there are some places that can have your glasses ready in as little as 24 hours. those places typically cost up to $400. if you go some where else like wal mart vision center they can be as cheap as $70, but you won't get them for a few days. if you want them super fast- plan on spending a few undred dollars, especially if you are in nyc.

i reccomend doing research and finding a place around the area that you live and check prices. don't buy from the first place you look at until you've checked out a few other places and found the best quality and best deal.

Nope..you really NEED the eye examine. You haveno idea what is wrong with your eyesight. You can get an eye exam and glasses some places for $75.00 There are franchise companies like "America's Best" ... or others ..look in the phone book and call around..but don't risk you eyes and your life (on the street!) !! You need glasses..you'll look way cute!! ?

If you know your old prescription, and you're willing to gamble $8, go to zennioptical.com., and you can buy them on line very cheap. if that doesn't work out, your prescription has probably changed, and I would go to Costco for an exam for $55, and a pair for about $100.
