Changing contact lenses' brand and having problems?!

Question: I've used contact lenses (Acuvue Toric) for about 12 years. I've never experiment discomfort or any problem.
Today the optometrist changed the brand to a new one (I didn't get the name), saying that my Acuvue are not good letting the oxygen pass through the lense, and that that may be a problem for my eye in the near future.
The "new" contact they gave me for test is thicker and bigger. I've been feeling uncomfortable all day, my eyes cry and are red, I feel like my eyes are burning.
Could this be an allergic reaction? Or is it a common reaction to the change of brands? Should I take them out and rush to the doctor?
What is your experience with this? With Acuvue? Other brands?

I recently went to the eye doctor and he wanted me to try Cooper Vision lenses.

I tried them for 2 days and was miserable.
He switched me to Accuvue Advance, which didn't work for me either.

I have worn the orignal Accuvue lenses for over 8 years with no problems, but the eye doctor said they were being phased-out. I heard from a reliable source that that was NOT true, that sample/trial pairs were the thing being phased out.

So...I simply took my prescription to Costco to get my lenses, and they got the Accuvues for me within 3 days. I think my eye doctor wanted to push the Cooper Vision lenses, or at least wanted to sell me whatever he had on hand.

Accuvue 2 lenses are supposed to be slightly better for you to wear than the original...I did try them, they were ok, I could live with them if I had to...but the original Accuvue lense is definately the most comfortable I've ever worn.

If your eyes feel too dry or red or tight feeling from whatever you are wearing, take them out asap. Schedule a follow-up visit, and hopefully they don't gaff you for the visit.

Sometimes I think they have you try things that don't work so you have to come back and they can charge you for a followup visit. Most doctors will include at least one followup, but some will charge you $35.00 for further visits...which doesn't seem fair to me when you've paid a large amount of money for the first visit.

stop use it ..and use the old one ~

Always had luck with Acuvue.

If it's not good, it's not good.

As an aside, never EVER change the solution you use on the same pair of contacts. You will seriously hate life.

This contact and your eyes are not a happy couple. Take the lenses out and call your doctor and tell him that you are very unhappy with the change. If he persists, find another eye doctor.

In the mean time, get some back up glasses. Never wear you contacts if they are causing your eyes to burn, water and turn red.

same thing happened to me and I ended up with an eye infection. now i can only use disposables. I'd go back to the old, they are prob guaranteed for a short period by your dr.

i think you should keep them in for maybe a couple days more and see if you get used to them because when you change your not used to them yet and if they dont get better go to the doctor

Yes, this is a common reaction to new contacts. Since you are having troble with your new brand you should wear your glasses for now and get back to the doctor to try something new. I currently use Acuvue Advance. They work well for me.

I used the old kind of Acuvue as well for awhile, until about a week ago my optometrist changed it to Acuvue Advanced or something. These new contacts are made out of silicon so they let your eyes breathe better I think. I'm wearing the test ones now and they're a lot more comfortable, actually. You should go back and talk to your eye doctor; ask about the new Acuvue silicon ones. I think those would work better for you.
Hope this helped.
Good luck.

Go back to your eye doctor and get a different brand. The lenses your wearing are obviously not fitting properly. I like Pure Vision Toric from Bausch & Lomb.
