Do reading glasses (like from walgreens) help nearsightedness?!

Question: I know i am nearsighted and i'll probably end up going to get my eyes checked out, but I want to know if reading glasses could help my condition. I ask because I put on my friend's glasses and they worked perfectly and my eyes didn't hurt.

If you are nearsighted, that means you need glasses for distance, You can see at near. Does your friend wear them for reading or distance? Over the counter readers are always in (+) form, +1.00,+1.25 etc. If your friend is nearsighted and wears them for distance viewing, the lenses are in (-) form such as -1.00, -1.25, etc, and are unavailable to you without a prescription. If you are having visual problem have an exam soon. It will give you exactly what YOU need.

You are nearsighted if you can read books or fine print by holding it close but cannot read things far away.

If you are nearsighted, "drug store" reading glasses will not help. Actually, they would work opposite and make your vision blurrier. You'll need a prescription and custom-made glasses.

So, if you're nearsighted and your friend's glasses worked, then we can assume that he or she didn't buy them at Walgreen's.
