Yes, for most frames you can get someone locally to install lenses--but there can be glitches. Places like Lenscrafters will not work with rimless compression fit type frames for example, and almost all places will charge you a "mounting" fee when you have your own frame--up to around $25 is common. They also like to add things on to make the lenses more expensive--coating and polishings, etc.. Watch out! Anti-reflection coating is, for example, a great option, but not for $90 extra dollars!

If you can get the supplier to install the lenses for you (very common online), this might be the best cost effective solution. Providing you have an accurate prescription, I have had very good luck purchasing prescription eyeglasses over the internet...

i dont think so, but what do i all know?

Sure you can.

It's the same as having the lenses replaced in your own frame.

If you have your prescription available, you can see if the online vendor will add the lenses. They may save you money there, too. It shouldn't be much of a problem, especially if your prescription isn't very strong. After about +/-4 or with multifocal lenses, the fitting process is more important as it's especially crucial that you're looking through the center of the lens.

Most places will add lenses to a frame you provide, but usually at full lens price, no warranties (i.e. if frame breaks during lens mounting, they won't replace the frame), and/or with extra mounting, handling, and fitting fees. So, you'll have to determine how much these this is worth vs. splitting up the job to save money.

Many places view the practice of providing your own, new, frame purchased elsewhere as being "cheap," so don't be surprised to find someone who refuses to work with you.

Other places may not have the equipment to do the job. Since the lens must be cut to match the frame, the shop must be able to "pattern" the lens. Some shops may rely on patterns delivered by the companies that supply their frames and may not be able to do this themselves. This is pretty rare in labs today, but it's a possibility.
