Anyone else hating their glasses and not being allowed contacts?!

Question: I really really don't like wearing my glasses, but without them I have too much trouble seeing and doing my job (working with a computer all day). The optician told me my eyes were too dry to wear contacts all the time, so I can basically only wear them to go out once in a while, or if I for some reason can't wear my glasses.

Also, my glasses aren't very strong so laser therapy "would be a bit drastic" according to the same optician.

Does anyone else have this problem or know of any alternative solutions? (Just not wearing my glasses is not an option if I want to survive crossing the streets here in the city!)

Sorry to read that you don't like wearing your glasses. Vanity gets the best of people, I guess.

But, while most people think LASIK is drastic for mild prescriptions, if you really don't like glasses (you've worn them a while, so you've given them a fair shot) and can't wear contacts then LASIK isn't so drastic in your case.

One thing you might inquire about is orthokeratology (ortho-k). This involves wearing rigid contacts at night to reshape the cornea for good vision during the day, glasses-free. It works best with mild prescriptions like yours. But, you have to find a doctor who is trained in an practices the technique.

i have to wear glasses watchn tv, comp etc, just get urself the sexiest frames you can find - even if they are a wee bit more expensive and get a haircut. ul feel totally hot and want to wear them.

at the end of the day anyway, if u dont wear them ur risking ur sight even further.

I think the specs today are brilliant, there are so many designs and are a statement. I have been shortsighted for 60 years but five years ago I got a book on how to improve myopia. I can almost see clearly now, it's just a fraction off but on a sunny day I can see clearly.

I mostly run around blind (hate my glasses). I just got a cute new pair.............. as cute as they can be when you are legally blind.
Consider getting a second opinion on the laser surgery:)

I've had to wear glasses for longer than you have (probably) been alive!

I don't like wearing specs - I was teased at school and never really got over that, but I have a phobia of anything near my eyes so I can't wear contacts.

I had to learn to accept that glasses are a part of my everyday life. I can't live a normal life without them (I'd get run over!).

Go to a different optician for a second opinion - I have dry eyes and have worn contact lenses since I was 13 years old - I am now 43! lenses when I was younger were not as advanced as they are now and some of the lenses available now are designed especially for people like you and me!

I love wearing glasses as there are some amazing styles to choose from but I enjoy the extra confidence boost and comfort of my contact lenses.

You know maybe you should get a second opinion about contacts. I have a friend who is in the same situation you are in and she wears contacts all the time. I think glasses are cool you just have to find the right pair that you think look good on you as well as fitting your face properly.

its the what others think of me part that bothers me, i should really get over that. id actually like wearing them then

I used to hate my glasses but now I see them as part of me.....I have red ones and I like them!! try getting some ones that u actually like as opposed ones that u wear grudgingly...I have tried contacts but I couldnt take them out, i really tried but it was the hardest thing in the world. So I resigned myself to wearing glasses again....its quite good in some ways tho.....ppl DO treat u as if ur more intelligent bcos of it....no one ever treats me like a bimbo and the more sophisticated and intelligent guys arent put off by it at all, I work the "sexy receptionist" look to full!
