If your Optometrist actually told you a fitting wasn't neccessary because they are all one size, then you should run...not walk...run to another Dr. next time you go for an exam.

They are a medical device and are controlled by law so that people don't injure their eyes.

You can't get them without a prescription.

I doubt you will find them.

as an optician I gotta tell you ,you can't. There are people who do not need vision correction but have colored contacts. They had to go through the process of getting an exam. Besides the doctor can tell you the correct size for you. If you don't have the right base curve the contacts will fall out. An optician shows you how to put them in and remove them. You also need to know how to properly care for them. without proper care you can cause irreversible damage. That is why you have to have a prescription.

Contacts usually are never sold unless you have seen an eye doctor. There are disposable contacts sold in stores, but you want to know what your perscription, and eye size is before you purchase them. Persciption means.... you know what lense will correct your eye sight. You won't know until you visit the eye doctor. I'm afraid you will have to do that to find the right contacts for you!! sorry!

If you truly did speak with an optometrist about getting colored contacts, I'd recommend you find a new optometrist before you do anything. Colored contacts DO come in different sizes. That is why you need to see an eye doctor; they have to measure your pupils to make sure you get the right size contacts, not to mention make sure of whether you do or don't need vision correction. Poor-fitting contacts can cause many things, including eye infections, discomfort, and worse. Also, with the colored contacts, if you don't get the right size, the colored part of the contact won't cover your natural eye color correctly, and it will look obviously fake. ALL contacts are considered medical devices, regardless of whether they have vision power in them or not, which is why you need a prescription to obtain any kind of contacts.

Go see a good eye doctor; they will give you a simple routine eye exam, and measure your pupils. Both procedures are totally painless. After that, the eye doctor will let you try on as many colored contacts as you like, so you can get a good idea of what colors you do and don't like. It's definitely worth spending a little money to make sure you are taking good care of your eyes. We only get one pair of eyes, so don't take chances with them...
