Whats the right price for eye exam++?!

Question: Today i went to Myeyedr to do an eye checkup and order contacts and glasses. My husband is frowning over the price, because it cost us $689. What i got in the plan was the checkup, one year supply of monthly contacts, a brand new pair of glasses with one year insurance, and a pair of designer sunglasses. We'll get a $100 mail-in-rebate, and a $20 GC after a survey. Do you think this price is fair? What does it cost other places? I think it was fairly cheap, considering the sunglasses alone would have cost about $200. What do you think?

$200 for a year's supply or contacts; $200 for sunglasses; $200 for an exam, for a total of $600 (after rebate) is reasonable if you bought everything through a doctor's office.

However, I never buy through a doctor's office.

I get the exam and then take the prescription elsewhere (like online) to get glasses or contacts. If you shop around, you can get a year's supply of contacts for as little at $120 online and designer prescription sunglasses for a similar amount. I spend an average of $30 for prescription sunglasses and as little as $8 for prescription glasses for my family. I don't see a need to spend more than I have to.

But, what's done is done- for future reference, now you'll know. If it's worth an extra $50-$200 to pay for the convenience of doing it all at your doctor's office, continue to do it. If not, the internet is a great resource for alternate suppliers of contacts and glasses, to save money and avoid your husband's frowns in the future!
