Anyone had the Lasik eye procedure done?!

Question: How did it go? Were the results good? Were there any bad side effects or pain? After the procedure do you need to take any time off work? How much does it cost? what are the Pros and Cons? How long does it take and what exactly happens?

Mine turned out great. There was no side effects except for some dryness that the antibiotic eye drops given to me by the doctor beforehand took care of. No pain at all but it was a weird feeling having it done. My doctor scheduled mine for a Friday afternoon late so I only had to take off work (environmental engineer) for about 1 hour to get to his office in time. I went back to work on Monday so I didn't miss any work except for that 1 hour. Prices vary somewhat from doctor to doctor. Mine cost $1300 per eye (almost 6 years ago). Pros: Was able to throw away my "coke bottle" glasses after wearing them for over 30 years (my new vision is 20/30)
Cons: I don't "see" any but there can be some possible complications that your doctor will discuss with you.
From the time I got to his office to the time I left was about 1 1/2 hours. The procedure on both eyes took up about 30 minutes total. The rest was ainly sitting around waiting. You will be asked to wait for about 30 minutes after to let your eyes partially heal (yes it does that fast!). You'll need to have someone with you to drive you home. They taped these protective goggles over each eye that isn't very fashionable (LOL!) and you need to keep them on until the next day except to slightly remove them to put the eye drops in. On the way home, I was able to read the license plates on cars in front of us.
My procedure went something like this: Took a sedative (low dose of valium before) just to calm your nerves. Walked into the room and reclined back in the operating chair. After having some numbing drops placed in eyes, my eyelids were taped open and a device was placed on an eyeball (can't feel it or really see it because of the drops which also really blurs your vision) then they make a partial circular incision in your cornea and the resulting flap is moved back. Told to stare steadily at a red dot. You hear a series of rapid little zap sounds and then they push the flap back into place. Repeat for the other eye. Sit up, rest, go home! Your doctor can give you the total lowdown and mine even showed me a video on an earlier visit. Good luck!

I had it done 2 months ago.

The procedure itself is not at all painful but it scared the hell out of me due to the fact that I could see everything that was being done.

They gave me some painkillers or some pills to relax me a bit since I was being really stressed that I would see the surgery being done. They cut something in the eye and everything goes black ! this was like for a minute or less, I cant really remember that much honestly. Finally I can see again, just with more blurry vision. The whole procedure took around 20 - 30 minutes, maybe less.

The blurriness subsided and I could see really clearly after a few days.

I didnt need any time off work, but I didnt go either as I didnt feel like it much. The doctor advised me not to put any eyemakeup for about a month, too keep my eyes clean, and to always wear glasses when out in the sun for the first 3 or so weeks.

I dont particularly remember the price, but it was expensive. Very much worth it in my opinion and Im pretty sure you wont regret it!

Good luck on your lasik if you decide to get it done!

From a survey in 2005 --

1 in 3 respondents to a survey indicated they were unsatisfied with vision in both or one eye, or had blurry vision conditions in darkness.

Lasik for Near-sightedness is but a temporary fix, as the eye's shape continues to change over time.
