Can I wear glasses over my contacts?!

Question: I have contacts that I wear everyday but I feel like my vision had gotten worse. I just went to the eye doctor in January and he changed my perscription from -1.00 and -1.25 to -1.75 in both eyes. That was just for my glasses perscription I didn't get new glasses */c I don't usually wear mine. The contacts people left my contacts perscription at -1.00 and -1.25, I am not really sure why. I notice that it is hard to see when I am driving to read signs especially at night but some during the day. Last week I decided to try to put my glasses on over my contacts when I was driving, the glasses are from about 6 years ago. I don't know the perscription but it probably is way less than my contacts. When I did this I could see amazing. It still wasn't perfect but it definately helped. Is it ok to do this just when I am driving at night? It is a pain but I feel like it is my only option. I dont want to do it if it will make my eyes worse. So do you think this is ok or will it be a problem?

Wearing your glasses over your contacts isn't going to do any damage, but it is a sure sign that your contacts aren't right.

If your new spectacle Rx is - 1.75...then your contacts should be also.

It's your vision and your eyes...ask them why your contact Rx wasn't changed and tell them you just aren't seeing clear.

At the very least they should give you a trial pair in the - 1.75 so you can see for yourself if that is better.

Someone will probably answer here that the contacts have to be weaker because they are closer to the eye, but that isn't true in the lower powers like 1.75

Your contacts are definately too weak for you. Go back and find out why.

I wouldn't recommend it. You really need to go see your eye doctor ..

You need to talk to your eye doctor because if the glasses prescription changed that much, so did your contact prescription.

you probably can but it might hurt your eyes and give you a head ache. i never tried but it will probably be like wearing someone else's glasses that are stronger than yours

You can, but why would you?

I wear glasses and contact lenses time to time. Due to high astigmatism its easier for me to have contact lenses only for myopia and my glasses has prescription for astigmatism. As long you are not getting any headaches or so you could do it. But I think that you should also tell your doctor that with the new prescription you still can see good. Last time i did eye exam they undercorrected my vision by -1 so i also had a lot of trouble driving at night specially.

your eyes aren't even that bad. i just got tested today and i have -4.0.
but it is not recommended to put glasses over contacts.
you should go to your optimist and get new contact prescriptions.
