Question for Opticians?!

Question: I'm going to order some contacts online and I have a perscription. Under cylinder on one eye it says -.50 but I can't find any lenses online that go to -.50 the lowest I can find is -.75 would it be okay to just put that down. Also, on my Axis it says x004 I heard from someone else on here that that is something like 4 degrees from 180. Would it be okay to put down 180 or 170. please only serious answers.

1) This cannot be your contact lens prescription. (There are no toric contact lenses available in -0.50 power.)

Your contact lens prescription (based on your glasses prescription) is most likely:
OD -4.75 DS
OS -4.25 - 1.50 x 004
( Notice, the contact lens powers are lower than the glasses')

2) Just for the future reference, the cyl (-1.50) in your left eye is pretty high so the answer about changing axis is NO! Changing it especially by a large amount (i.e. to 170) would be really hard to adapt to and you will hate it!!!

3) Answer about getting -0.75 cyl for the -0.50 right eye, is also a NO! You do not need torics for that eye.

So, I suggest asking your doctor for a contact lens prescription. It won't take long and it's free of course :)

Hope this answers your question.

As you were told earlier, your prescription is not for contacts.

The online place will verify with your Dr. before filling the order and it will be refused.

Half of the - .50 cylinder has to be added to the sphere power to begin with. Thats how we know it isn't a contact prescription, as well as the axis at 004.

You can't just change the prescription yourself and expect it to pass.

You will have to go back to the Dr. for an actual prescription for contacts.

If they told you that they gave you the contact prescription, they made an error.

On your prescription it would say what brand contact lens you have. You never mentioned that in your question. and your axis number is suggestive of glasses not contacts. Do you were tori cs or single vision. Weren't you supposed to go back for a follow up visit after given your trial lenses. You will not get away with changing your prescription and Dr. can deny you contacts if you can't be responsible with them and keep trying to break the law.
