If the new ones are for school, they are probably to see the chalkboard. So they are for distance. If the old ones are for reading, they are for close up.
Unless you watch tv close up, use the new ones.

Well, try them on, and see which you are most comfortable with at those different distances.

The one you see best with, and are most comfortable with will be the right one.

You can't harm your eyes if you wear the wrong one...so just go with the one you see best with at different times.

go see a good eye doctor to check out both pairs of glasses optometrist does not seem to know what he is doing

Try it and you will see.

My impression is that he was telling you that for close work, you should use your old glasses and for far work use the new ones.

A friend has 3 pairs of glasses: for reading, for distance and for the computer. That being said, the computer is a tossup. Use the glasses that will allow you to see without either having to tilt your head up or down.

Do not be afraid to call about this. You've paid good money for your glasses and your eye exam. Get satisfaction. You cannot replace your eyes. Take care of them

Good luck

well try them both and see how they feel
