Eye Dr. advice on how severe my eyes are?!

Question: I need some honest input about the severity of my astigmatism:

Glasses:
Sphere Cylinder Axis
Right -1.25 -4.00 178
Left -0.75 -3.50 007

Contacts
Sphere Cylinder Axis
Right -1.25 -3.75 180
Left -1.25 -3.25 005

and also if anyone can tell me by these numbers if I should consider lasik. Thank you!

With that astigmatism, you're at the top end of the normal range. As you may have discovered, there are limited options among the standard toric contact lenses for that Rx, though custom ones can be made to considerably higher powers.

Most people would need that Rx all the time, but I've met a few individuals with high astigmatism, with the -ve axis horizontal, who are much less inconvenienced that one might expect.

Most sites appear not to consider astigmatism as a ruling-out factor for Lasik or Lasek until -6.00, so the decision would largely be about considering the other risk factors and suitabilities (stable Rx, adequate corneal thickness, chance of night-time glare...)

With your degree of astigmatism, stability of Rx is particularly important because, if it continues to change, keratoconus will be a possibility to to be watched for at routine examinations, though it's far from inevitable.

(my astigmatism also runs to -3.50, but much more obliquely, which made contact lens fitting fun!)

Not too bad.
