Could i get pink eye?!

Question: i have never had pink eye, but yesterday i was hit in the eye with a small basket ball in gym class, and the basket ball was touched by students whom i know never wash there hands, EVER and it had like dirt from peoples shoes on it. my eye closed before it hit me, but i wasn't thinking and rubbed my eye,
do you think there is a chance i could get pink eye from it?
and how long does it take the eye to start showing symptoms?
i think i might just have eye strain from being on the computer for a long time, but my eye kind of aches but does not itch.
?????????????
thanks

The people who were touching the ball have to have had pink eye and somehow wiped that on the ball and it somehow got in your eye, which is slim to none. Just wash your eye out well and stop rubbing it so much. You won't get pink eye.

Did the ball have fecal matter on it?

its really hard to get pink eye.
to get it basically someone with it has to rub their eye, touch something, you touch what they did and then rub your eye.

but if you do wake up and your eye is crusty with goo on it and it itches (gross, i know), then you have it.

Pink eye, or conjunctivitis, is redness and inflammation of the membranes (conjuctiva) covering the whites of the eyes and the membranes on the inner part of the eyelids. These membranes react to a wide range of bacteria, viruses, allergy-provoking agents, irritants, and toxic agents, as well as to underlying diseases within the body. Viral and bacterial forms of conjunctivitis are common in childhood, but they can occur in people of any age. Overall however, there are many causes of pink eye. These can be classified as either infectious or noninfectious.

eye pain,

swelling,

redness, and

a moderate to large amount of discharge, usually yellow or greenish in color.

its possible to get pink eye in strange ways like off a basketball, but don't worry until it happens. Just be sure to keep your hands clean, keep your hands aaway from your face, examine your eyes for the telltale redness. There may or may not be itching or tearing. Id you haven't noticed anything ina week you will probably be fine. See a doctor if you are concerned.
