Acuvue Oasys Lenses?!

Question: Ok i recently changed contact lenses; Proclear to Acuvue Oasys and im crossing my fingers that it won't dry my eyes out. BUT, i heard you can wear them for like 2 weeks without even taking them out at night...is this true? I want to try it but i'm a little scared of damaging my eyes, but is it true you can do that? if so, how long SHOULD it be in the eye for?

Regardless of what the manufacturer says , it is always better to take them out EVERY night.

Bacteria forms between the lens and the eye, no matter what brand it is.

For many years of problem free use of contacts...take them out at night.

The lens is approved for extended wear up to six consecutive nights but that doesn't mean it's an option for everyone. You really do need to discuss this option with your doctor. Everyone's a little different when it comes to contact lens wear and your doctor is the only one who can tell you the best wearing schedule for your individual needs. If you want to sleep in your contacts there are several lens options to discuss with your doctor like the Focus Night & Day, which is approved for up to 30 continuous nights, and the O2 Optix or the Oasys, which can each be worn for six nights.

2 weeks continuous wear is excessive! The lens is suitable to wear overnight for some people. Your contact lens optician will advise you if you are suitable to wear them this way.

If you have dry eye then you should not really be wearing the lenses more than you need to.

I really don't like the continuous wear attitude that a lot of lazy people are adopting. I really only approve of it if you have a job where you need to be able to do things in the middle of your sleep, like someone in the emergency or armed forces.

Don't sleep in your lenses unless you need to. The risk of complications is significantly higher by doing it so why take that risk unless you REALLY need to?

As others have mentioned, if you are considering extended or continuos wear, you should talk to your OD. My lenses, Purevision, are FDA approved for 30 days of continuos wear. I have worn them over night and into the next day, for about 38 hours, and I didn't care for it. Toward the end of the second day my eyes get fussy, and the lenses require more drops and they aren't as comfortable as when they have only been in for 12-16 hours at the end of a single day. Extended wear just isn't for me.

No. Dont wear it to sleep often even it is approved for doing so. The lenses is approved for 30days or 14 days wearing but is not suitable for everyone. Best recommended to wear it and remove before sleep. Oasys and proclear sphere are all desighned that it shouldnt be a problem for the use to wear it for more than 12hrs to the extend of 24hrs.
