You shouldn't need to worry about that. When I was younger, I got glasses and I was very scared of being made fun of. It turns out my friends all liked them and thought they looked good on me. Your 5 year olds friends will protect him if there will be any bullies, which there probably won't be. Kids at this age aren't really introduced to being bullies yet. When he gets older, people will be used to seeing him in glasses, so don't worry at all.

At 5yrs old, I dont think he will get too builled. As he matures onto elder grades, consider contacts, they work just as well. Just tell your son that hes jealous, and that he secretly wants a pair too ;]
Glasses are actaully coming back in style.
Shocking eh?

My nephew who is 5 and is in kindergarten recently got glasses. We were a bit worried, but all of the kids ended up being really jealous and thought they were neat! Now they all want them!!

Now, when he gets older this could be an issue, but then by then he will either be old enough to not care or old enough to get contacts.

Kids think braces and glasses are "cool" at that age! No worries!

he probably will, ....but he wont be alone, he wont be the only one with glasses and ...if he is, you need to tell him before hand that some kids like to make fun of others, ...whether its glasses or their shoes. your kid will be just fine, and he'll grow up just fine, he'll just get an early lesson in the ignorance of others, no big deal, ..but if you make it a big deal, he will too.
i had to wear glasses at 6 years old...and my teacher made me stand in front of the class and show them off, ...it was ridiculous, as i had them really ugly cat eye glasses.
what you could do, ..is,..invite 2 or 4 or more, (the more the better ) kids, from his class, the ones from his play group maybe, and take them with you and your son, to pick out the glasses, make a day of it, that way when he goes to school, ..his friends will already think hes "cool"...cus they helped pick them out!......
oh and as he gets older?? ..no worry, teens today think glasses are a fashion item, ...even middle school kids, ...glasses are so common today....
...and he's way too young for contacts!....gees, i cant believe someone said that. lol...Even middle school kids are too young for contacts.
good luck, and dont worry

Well, elementary schools do have students bullying four-eyed classmates. That can't be helped. Your child needs it so you have to give him that. Just ask the school about bullying issues. I'm sure the school have arranged some rules/methods on teaching kids on not to bully.

But, in highschool or in higher grades (gr 6/7/8), there won't be any issues about four-eyes since the kids will be more mature about it.

Just make sure you don't act insecure about it, that will make him feel unsure of himself, which will cue in bullies to do their thing. If he acts like he really likes them and is excited about them, other kids are more likely to want them instead of instigating bullying.

get contacts?
