when she turns twelve

Well i got them at 14 and have been wearing them ever since (I am 26 now).

My daughters both asked for contacts. I told them that they would be a good idea once they started doing sports. In their school that was 7th grade. Basketball and tennis players risk broken glasses and eye injuries with balls flying by. They both did a very good job because they are responsible and they were motivated. I told them they'd have to stop if I saw them using the contacts in an unsafe way.

i got mine at 14 but it depends on how responsible your kids are

I wore glasses starting in 1st grade and my mom made me wait till 12th grade (age 17) to get my contacts, even though I begged her. My glasses were also very thick starting in about 4th grade. I went through most of high school and all of middle school feeling really unnattractive, even though I was actually pretty. It was also really uncomfortable when playing sports, and they would get steamed up/covered with water when it rained which is mortifying when you are in middle school. Also, it annoyed me that I couldn't wear sunglasses. Don't do this to your daughter! At the very latest let her get them in 8th grade, 6th grade if her glasses are really thick.
