Contacts + Showering?!

Question: I accidentally left my contacts in when i went to shower. Surprisingly, I still had them in when I got out.

Now I've always been told that swimming with contacts can cause infections..... showering is the same idea, right? My question- can i still continue wearing that pair of contacts?

I'd suggest taking them out and washing them in the solution.

Swimming with contacts can cause infections because the pool isn't really 100% germ free, and there is chlorine in the water that can get trapped behind the contacts (thats the main source of an infection).

I shower with my contacts in all the time, otherwise I use my fiances body wash for shampoo, or I use shampoo for body wash or i turn it to ice cold instead of hot. (I'm major blind, lol)

I always shower with my contacts still in...nothing happens

You could go swimming, just don't open your eyes underwater or else it will irritate your eyes (possibly lose a contact also)

Yes, you can still wear that pair

i wear my contacts everytime i shower or bathe, ive never heard of this before

i do it all the time and haven't had any problems!

i still wear my contacts when taking showers just don't get them wet especially when swimming.

I wear contacts when I shower all the time and nothing has ever happened! Don't worry about it.

I shower with my contacts on a pretty regular basis. It's never given me a problem!

I shower with mine in all the time. I think the thing with swimming is the chlorine in the water and the fact that your eyes are completely submerged. Your tap water shouldn't have huge levels of chlorine like pools do, nor should you have completely submerged your eyes. You should be fine showering with contacts. I know I've never had any problems with it.

i swim w/ my contacts all the time. and i have showered with them. i guess just rinse them w/ solution they should be fine

I never heard either of those things - although I can see the point in the pool - pools can be disgusting places. But I wouldn't worry about it; I swim with my contacts in and shower with them in regularly and have never had a single problem.

if u dont get water in your eyes u can shower all u want with contact is u get water in them just use a eye rinse

i always shower with my contacts on.. the thing is, swimming pools have chloring in them and that creates a chemical reaction with your contact lens. but in showers its simply water. it's okay, trust me i do it all the time and i've never gotten an infection :)

I am the worst person to be wearing contacts. I have Acuvue Oasis so I can keep them in for a week and then take them off for a day and put them back on, but I haven't taken them off once. Luckily for me.. I haven't got any infections yet. Though, I am scared of being blind the rest of my life. =( Showering with contacts doesn't bother me.

heck yea, i go swimmin in mine along with showering and sleeping. ya just gotta take em out bout 4 times a week and leave em out all nite. best of luck you wont die or go blind.

i always take showers with my contacts in
so i dont think it really matters

I've been wearing contacts now for 10 years, and I have never heard of this. I have always bathed, showered, and swam (but I don't open my eyes underwater with them) with contacts and I've never had any problems. You can keep wearing that pair, I promise nothing bad will happen, but if you are really worried, clean them with saline and then put them back in.

sure

no worries

I showered all the time with my contacts in

just keep a towel near your face and dry off before you open your eyes after rinse etc.

the pool has bacteria that could get in your eyes

just be careful not to get any soap in your eye.

if your worried take them out an rinse them with your solution then put them back in.

you're not suppose to but it's not that big of a deal for both swimming and showering

I have never heard anything like that, just if you swim in your contacts, you'll most likely loose them. When showering, the water is coming down at you, not towards you, so there's MUCH less chance of your contacts washing away.

Same pair of contacts? Of course! We're not bathing in bacteria infected water, so don't worry too much about an infection. But if you just want to be safe, take them off rinse them through with contact wash.

im thinking that swimming with them in can cause your eye to get irritatied from the chemicals in the water and because its still standing water in the shower its flowing and is clean water.

Showering with the eye close is ok but not swimming with it. It is really bad for the eyes. I had eye infection while wearing it for a swim
