Need help with glasses?!
Question: My only glasses frame broke and the lens got scratched (not deep though).
I dorm in College out of state and just my luck, my health insurance ran out last year.
I have money and transportation. I just don't know what to do..
Can I go to eyeglasses store and get new frames and get the scratches buffed out?
OR
Do I have to call my eye doctor and tell him i need the medicine codes so I can give it to the eyeglasses store and get new glasses.
I am really lost. If I was in my home state or town, this would be no problem

Take the them to a local optician. Perhaps your frame can be repaired and at the very least, the lenses may be able to fit into another frame. It's not impossible, so if they tell you it is then they just don't want to take the time.The scratches cannot be taken out so you will still have them. Otherwise, the prescription you are wearing can be read off the lenses you have and be duplicated into a new pair.

The only thing I can add is that for this sort of mishap, if you are trying to steer clear of new $400 glasses, try to avoid taking them into a chain store, such as Lenscrafters or Pearl Vision, etc.. They are geared toward corporate greed, and will just want to get you into new glasses with expensive frames, and will leave you very little options.
This is one of those prime times when finding a little independent shop with talented people can really pay off
