Wearing glasses?!

Question: I wear glasses and I don't wear them that often because I still have to get used to them. When I don't wear them, does my eye sight get worse, or better? People say that reading in the dim light is bad because it might make my eye sight even worse!!

One of the most common misconceptions.

Your eyes won't get worse because you don't wear your glasses.

Reading in a dim light could make your eyes get tired faster, and feel gritty , but that is just temporary. It doesn't make your vision worse.

Glasses have nothing to do with making your vision better or worse.

Lots of people say their vision is worse after they start wearing glasses full time ( when they take them off)...but that is only because the brain is telling you that it prefers to see clear and not have to strain to focus the eyes.

Your vision is affected by the physical changes that happen within the eye. A lens in front of it can't change that.

Wear your glasses when you feel the need...it's just a question of comfort. No harm will come one way or the other.

You must begin to use the glasses or get a surgery to improve your vision.

yupp! it'll make it worse!

depends whats ur condition , if u are miope that condition is always in progress not like others that may stop whe u get to 18, 21 years old. I recomend u eighter way to use ur glasses all the time :)

when you dont wear glasses it doesn't effect your perscription but reading in dim light will make your i sight even worse... i should know cause i often read in dim light. trust me do not do that!

I'm no specialist, but I'm quite sure that reading in dim light may be bad for your sight. As for wearing glasses... I have been wearing glasses for about a year now, and although they have improved my ability to see from far away, I've also noticed that my eyesight seems to be getting worse at a faster rate than before I began wearing them. I have to rely on them more and more, and will probably need a stronger pair very soon. Glasses seem to make things better and worse at the same time.

You should wear your glasses. Worsening eyesight is really inevitable, unless your parents have perfect eyesight, you never go on the computer/watch tv or read. And I think it stays about the same when you do not wear glasses.
Basically, just wear your glasses. or get contacs if you're bothered.

I'm not too sure if your eyesight gets worse but I have found that since I've started wearing glasses that I rely on them more. For example before I got glasses I could watch tv without glasses and the picture was a little blurry but now if I try to watch tv without glasses I can't see anything.. My mum and sister both say the same thing

Hope that helps
Anna :)

When you don't wear them your eyesight gets worse, when you wear them it stays the same. It never gets better until you become 50 years old and it gets worse in the opposite direction, that is you become far-sighted and you need glasses to read.
Reading in dim light simply tires your eyes more quickly, it doesn't make your eyesight worse, it's the reading at an angle, like while laying on your bed, that makes your eyesight worse.

You worry too much. Wear the glasses, or they are a waste of money. As for the dim light, you worry too much about that, too. Didn't Abraham Lincoln read his law books by candle light?
