Do hold your eye open to discourage the blinking reflex. And this sound odd, but--try to focus on your image in the mirror, and not what you are actually seeing, that is to say your finger coming in to your eye. Try to instead focus on your image in the mirror and what you are doing...

Also try as much as possible to relax and be calm. This is SO much of the battle. If you approach the situation with dread, your results will not be the best. Instead, breath deeply and Tell yourself that you will indeed be successful and then proceed with slow and steady movements. I also like to put a drop of re-wetting drops into the contacts before applying. It helps them to stick to the eye and float into proper position.

When removing, gently use the pads of the index finger and the thumb and start at the edges of where the contacts are and then just S Q U E E Z E them out slowly, letting them get caught in your finger and thumb--do not tense up and try to PINCH that gol darn dang nabbed thing outtta there! Just serenely S Q U E E Z E the contact out with as little effort as possible.

It'll also help if you practice futzing with your eye with no "contact agenda". Just practice getting used to having your finger approach your eye, and heck, even go ahead and touch your eyeball...! Just lightly and only for a second, but you'll see it's not the end of the world, and if fact you only feel it for a few seconds. And when you get good with contacts, you'll rarely touch your eyeballs, so this training is the, "worst of the worst"...

Remember it's hard at first for all of us, but it does get easier (and it gets easier pretty fast too!). The biggest key is not to be your own worst enemy--be calm and tell yourself that you are going to do this, and as easily and effortlessly as you can, do it. Period.

I'm pretty sure i cried for an hour before e i put my first pair in. there's nothing more, other then spiders, that scares me then putting in my contacts... but all you need to do is wear them a lot and practice putting them in and taking them out. After a while you will get so use to them you'll forget that there even there.

yes, you'll get used to it. the soft lenses are great nowdays.
My daughter has contacts & loves them. make sure to keep them clean. I am farsighted too.
Good luck.
