Pink Eye: If I ignore it, will it go away?!

Question: People kept asking if I had Pink Eye today. I finally looked in the mirror, and yup, it's an eye and it's pink. It doesn't itch or anything like that. And I don't remember if I got something in it this morning. If I ignore it, will it go away?

It's not just going to go away if it really is pink eye.
Always see your physician immediately when any symptom of pink eye is detected. A physical examination by the physician should be sufficient to determine what type of conjunctivitis it is. If there is any doubt, the physician may take a specimen of the discharge from the eye, etc. and get it analyzed to make sure if it is caused by virus, bacteria, or allergen.Treatment will vary as to the cause of the pink eye. Conjunctivitis caused by bacteria is treated using antibiotics. The same treatment will be useless for conjunctivitis caused by a virus, and the treatment here will consist of antihistamines and anti-inflammatory medication, and a cold compress. For conjunctivitis caused by a bacteria an antibiotic eye-drop or ointment is prescribed by the physician. This treatment should be followed (usually 4 times daily) till all symptoms are gone. For conjunctivitis caused by a virus the physician will prescribe antihistamines to reduce inflammation. Along with this a cool compress three to four times daily will be beneficial. Continue till all symptoms are gone. For conjunctivitis caused by an allergen, the best treatment is to avoid any contact with the allergen. A cool compress three to four times daily will help, so will antihistamines that are available over-the-counter.When you have pink eye, do not use contact lenses if you normally do. Non-prescription artificial tears (a type of eye drops) will help reduce the itching and burning sensation, but ask your physician before using it. If using eye drops, dispose off the bottle after you are cured. Someone else who uses it could get infected. Never use any lotion, cream, or any sort of make up in or near the eyes.

yes! but also, put some eye drops in! I had a pink eye once

it goes away soon!!

good luck!

It depends on how severe your case is. If you dont get treatment, it could lead to a more problematic infection and cause serious damage to your high. Not to mention, pink eye is EXTREMELY contagious. So even if you ignore it, you are more than likely to pass it on. However, some people dont seek treatment for pink eye and it is possible for it to go away with time. If I were you, I'd seek treatment. Better safe than sorry! Good Luck!

It could be just a minor irritation that will go away on it's own .

It could also be the start of Pink Eye..( conjunctivitis )..which in turn could be viral, or bacterial.

Viral can usually be healed with non prescription soothing drops, and a few days of time. You will have itching and very red eyes.

Bacterial, which will cause itching, burning, and swelling of the lids has to be treated with anti biotics.

If it isn't better tomorrow, seek the advice of your Dr.

The dreaded "pink eye" is caused by a very contagious virus. Most red eyes are not pink eye, but you may still need treatment. It is important that you see your eye doctor for treatment. Most family physicians do not have a slit lamp microscope for viewing the eye structures. Without one it is really hard to come to an accurate diagnosis. Your red eye may be caused by a corneal ulcer, which left untreated can cause permanent scarring and possible vision loss. Better to be safe and get it checked out soon!
