One dead giveaway is people who have naturally darker eyes, and try to wear really light colored contacts, like blue. Darker-eyed people have to wear the opaque style colored contacts, to fully cover their own color. So you can always see the pattern of the colored contact on dark-eyed people if you look closely. From a distance they may look ok, but once you get up close, you can usually tell.

Another way you can tell on about anyone...most of the colored contacts have a darker ring on the outside to enhance and add depth to your eyes. That ring on the contacts will make your own outer limbal ring appear thicker and darker. Most people's limbal rings don't stand out so much without colored contacts.

You can also tell on most people if they get an unnatural color in the contacts, like turquoise...I mean, has anyone ever had that eye color naturally?!

The only true way to get a natural look with any colored contact is to get an enhancer-type colored contact that is very similar to your own natural color. It will just brighten up and add more definition to your own eye color, and will look pretty darn natural. I wear the enhancer ones like that, and have never once been asked if I'm wearing colored contacts.

your closest friends are always the one to notice it :)...unless the color is too unnatural other people hardly will notice. only when they get too close to see the contact lenses.
