No. If you want the doctor to look at the health of your eyeball - like all the way in the back, then he/she will need to dilate your eyes.

For contacts - no.

And dilation does not hurt at all. The sun may seem brighter than normal and people are going to think you are on serious drugs.

I am not sure if you have to get your eyes dilated for a contact fitting, but you may have to as part of the general eye exam. Having your eyes dilated does not induce any pain, although it will make them light-sensitive. You should have someone take you to the doctors office as it will be very hard to drive home with your eyes dilated.

When I went for my contact lens fitting, the doctor did not dilate my eyes. I don't know if your eye doctor will dilate yours or not. I've had it done before, and it doesn't really hurt, but it will make your eyes more sensitive to light...so be sure to wear the sunglasses-type things they give you, or at least wear your own sunglasses. You may want someone to drive you home also, if the eye doctor does dilate your eyes.

No slightly stings
