Isn't it very rare or impossible for a woman to be colorblind?!
Question: Due to it being a genetically male thing?
Answers: Due to it being a genetically male thing?
Yes, it is much more likely for a male than a female to be color blind/deficient. Since it is an X-linked disease, females need to have both X chromosomes for the trait. Since males only have 1, if it is deficient, that male will be color blind. A female can be a carrier for the trait, but not manifest it. For a girl to be colorblind or deficient, both parents need to carry the gene...very unlikely. Since it is a very uncommon trait, the odds that a colorblind man and a colorblind or a colorblind carrier woman having color blind children would be rare. The likelyhood for a female is about 0.08% (if I remember the percentages correctly from school).
yeah it is more a "male" thing. For some reason if a guy has a color other than brown for his eye, it is likely he is somewhat color blind.
yes
Yes it is rare. It is generally a male thing. I wear glasses and have sight tests every now and then, and they give me colour blind tests too, and Im a woman! I cant make it out either.
It's not impossible but it is less likely. 1 in 8 men are genetically colourblind and 1 in 32 women are.
Anyone is as likely as anyone else to get acquired colourblindness, this is secondary to drug use (not just illicit drugs- prescribed ones too) or an illness/disease
