Glasses/contacts?!

Question: i went to get my eyes checked the other day and they told me i need glasses. I really dont want glasses, so am i allowed to go straight to contacts without ever getting glasses. I know that wouldnt exactly be smart to NEVER get glasses, cuz i might not wanna wear my contacts one day, but I know my friends that wear contacts, said that you have to wear glasses for at least a year b4 u can even get contacts. Plz help me. Im very confused.

I'd get the contacts--the vision is more natural, crisper and clearer--it's like your eyes just got magically corrected. Glasses have such lens awareness, and constantly get dirty, and slide down your nose...

And having to wear glasses before contacts is, well, NUTS advice, I must say.

But it sure helps to have both! I wear my contacts most of the time, but every once in a while they will be driving me nuts, or I just feel like hanging at home in front of the TV with the glasses, and then I am glad I have them...!

But honestly, contacts are so wonderful, they are worth the extra care and risks involved. But taking care of them to clean and disinfect to minamulize risks really becomes second nature, and only take a few minutes a day. Honestly, I think I spent more time cleaning my glasses lenses in day--I hate when they get blurry due to skin oils or finger-marks--which is just a non-issue with contacts....

i never wore glasses and i went straight to contacts and i was fine.... maybe u can get both and just wear glasses sometimes like when u dont feel like wearing conacts

I have never heard of this "rule". I don't know how old you are but sometimes, the doctor is reluctant to give contacts if they think you are too young to take care of them. It probably would be a good idea to have glasses as, even if you would be wearing contacts "all the time" there would still be times when you might not want to bother to put in cotacts, or had pink eye, or some other reason you couldn't wear them.

By the way, there are so many cool frames to choose from; there must be something you'll look great wearing.

I just noticed:

Since your avitar wears glasses, you should wear glasses (I think it it might be some kind of rule or something).

i got my contacts right after my eye appointment and have been wearing them ever since. I hate glasses. They bother your eyes by making everything look warped. You have to get use to putting them in your eyes but as long as you wash them with solution before putting them on they should be hardly noticeable at all.

no , you can move right a way to contacts [ but make sure u get a glasses to wear while ur eyes are inflamed or when you have infection , which happens frequently with the contacts ]
how old are you ? many eye doctors don't give contacts to young girls .

I started wearing contacts about 6 months ago, and my optometrist didn't say anything about needing to have used glasses for a year (keeping in mind I've had glasses for longer than that and she knows that). However, depending on the kind of problem you have, you may not even be able to use contacts - you have to be in a specific range and some such to be able to use them. Also, they'll only give you contacts if you need to wear your glasses every minute of the day, so if you only need your glasses for reading or that kind of thing I wouldn't bother with it. There are plenty of things that can go wrong with contacts, and they warn you a lot about increased chance on infection and eye problems. It'd just be easier to pop your glasses on and off.

My optometrist also told me that I cannot wear the 24/7 contacts for a while yet (possibly this is what your friends meant), as I've never worn them before and you must first train your eyes with the temporary ones. And you can only wear them about 5 times a week to give your eyes a rest the other 2 days, so you are still definitely going to need glasses. Sorry. But hey, picking the frames is always a lot of fun, and it means you have 2 looks to play with.

you should make a pair of glasses even though u are going to make urself wear contact lens. your eyes definitely need a rest after contact lens wear, for eg when u are at home at night. u cant possibly wear contact lens for 24/7 although there are lenses in the market suitable for 30 days continuous wear. its still not healthy for the eyes.
