Are transitional lenses supposed to turn pitch black when it's cold out?!
Question: When I look through them they look like shades, but to someone else looking at me they look pitch black. I get comments like "Oooooh, your glasses are so cool!" But I'm just curious if they're supposed to do that.

Transitions V (5) are the best photochromic lenses on the market. They change colour using UV light and temperature. They work best when there is a lot of UV light and when it is cold- they work really well if you go ski-ing! If you put them in the freezer they will go as dark as possible.
They will go really dark grey and this will look black- so yes your lenses are supposed to do that! :)
not pitch black...they don't come in the color. gray, i think, is the darkest color. what color did you pick when you ordered your glasses? i thought they only transitioned in the sun.
Yes, that is normal.
Transitions change faster and darker in the cold than in the heat of summer.
