Can anyone help with my eye prescription?!

Question: sph right -0.50 , cyl0.25, axis 10. Left -0.25
near right +1.00 . left +1.00

I have asked to wear contact lenses and I am due to have trial these soon. I am not keen on wearing glasses.

What do the figures mean? Will contacts help?

You have a relatively low myopic prescription, with a bifocal power for near work.

You can use bifocal contact lenses or monovision. Bifocal contacts work different ways, depending on the brand. They usually present each eye with two images, one clear for the distance and one clear for up close. The brain figures out which one to use. Monovision works in a similar way, but very different. One eye sees better up close, and one eye better far away. Both probably sound difficult to get used to -- depending on how motivated you are to use contacts, you may do fine. You have to be ready to make compromises with your distance and near vision.

In general, most of my patients with that prescription would not wear contacts, but glasses. Some wear near only, some progressive, some separate pairs for near and far.

You should ask your optometrist to explain. They are qualified to do so whereas the average Joe on here is not

Cant help you there, there is nothing wrong with wearing glasses there are some nice ones now and it could make you look cool

Yes, I'm sure contacts will help. Many of them these days are barely noticeable, and often disposable. You may need reading glasses though, the only way to be sure is to see what happens. Your optician will explain what the "shorthand" means, if you want.

By the power of that Rx, you certainly don't need contacts. They don't even make them in a - 0.25

You would find glasses usefull for very occaissional use, such as driving on a long trip and for TV...aside from that, you can function very well without them.

It is a very very minor correction that contacts won't help at all ....you couldn't even get one for the left eye.

Unless you find your right eye a bit blurry and it bothers you , don't even bother with glasses yet.

You won't even require reading glasses. The + 100 for reading is just to counteract the distance correction if you were wearing it.

Without glasses on, you would only need a + 0.50 for reading...which isn't worthwhile yet either.

I'm confused. What was your chief complaint? When the doctor asked you the purpose of your visit, what did you say?Tell us more.

The figures mean that you don't have 20/20 vision, but your vision isn't severe.

Wearing contacts will obviously make you see sharper.

If you want to know the specific details on your prescription, then ask your eye doctor.
