Why can't i adjust to my new lenses?!

Question: i've got fairly bad vision and have worn glasses and contacts for many years. i gave up on wearing contacts a while back and wore an old pair of glasses for several years. my vision started getting worse, so i got a new perscription. however i was never really able to adjust to them, my eyes felt kinda crossed, and i got a headache/dizzy. so i went back to the old glasses. later i tried getting a new perscription again, but the same thing happened. recently i even tried contacts again, but my eyes don't feel right with them either. my eye doctor says i have very healthy eyes. so whats going on with me? am i just too used to the old perscription? has this happened with anyone else?

Here is my advice:
1. put on your new glasses first thing in the morning after you eyes have had "rest"
2. DO NOT change back to your old glasses....put them away in a drawer for now.
3. wear your new glasses exclusively for 2 weeks.

After 2 weeks you will most likely be feeling comfortable in your new specs. This feeling you describe can be normal for many people. Changes in prescription or lens type and material can all be contributing factors.

If you do not settle in after 2 weeks or if you really truly cant even tough it out for the full 2 weeks then you need to go back to the doctor you gave you your new prescription to have a re-check. Occasionaly people and their eyes have what I call a "bad day" in the exam chair and may not give the best most consistant answers during the initial refraction.

As for contacts there are many reasons why people can be come contact lens intolerant....age, dryness, and allergies are just a few reasons. You could also try a new brand of contacts...they all have differences and maybe its time for a fresh fitting.

Good Luck~
