Question: And what's the good and bads with glasses and contact lenses. If contact lenses do the same, why doesn't everyone use them?

You don't necessarily get far-sighted as you get older--manly individuals who have hyperopia (far sighted) become more far sighted as presbyopia sets in during the 40's--when the eye's lenses lose the ability to contract and expand to see at different focal lengths. This is when most people who are hyperoptic keep their far vision, but suddenly need glasses to read or see things up close as the eye's lens can no longer rack focus from far to near.

Being myopic (near sighted) can be an advantage as you get older in that you do not need reading glasses to read or see things close up. However, you may not be able to see things across the street with any clarity! So it is a trade off. Most near sighted people, in order to see into the distance, need to get glasses for distance, and then remove them to read or see things close up. Just the opposite for far sighted folks who can see across the street just fine, but need to put glasses on to read anything. Six of one, half dozen of the other...! Bifocal or progressive glasses, or multifocal and bifocal contact lenses, are an option for both myopia and hyperopia 40-somethings with presbyopia.

Contact lenses are not for everyone--they can be annoying in the eye for more sensitive people, frustrating to be futzing with fingers around and in the eye, and not nearly as easy and comfortable as just slipping a pair of glasses on. However, for many (like ME!), the better, distortion-free vision, and the hassle of not having plastic lenses stuck onto your nose and face with lens edge distortion and constant awareness is SO worth the little hassle CL's sometimes present. If someone can open their eye wide with their fingers, and then lightly touch their eyeballs with freshly washed fingers--and not be annoyed or scared, or blinking wildly, or think they could even get used to such actions--they are an ideal candidate for contact lenses.

Nothing good about being nearsighted. I am 59 and am still nearsighted.

No. If you are nearsighted, when you age, you can become nearsighted as well as far sighted--meaning you need glasses or contacts to see distantly and reading glasses to see near. Not everyone can tolerate contact lenses. It depends on the structure of the particular person's eye. Although I once did, I cannot wear contacts because of dry eye syndrome. I had laser surgery some years ago that corrected my near sightedness although it aggravated dry eye syndrome for a while. My far-sightedness, which is a consequence of aging, is getting worse and probably cannot be corrected with laser surgery. So I where reading glasses.

my eyes are really bad and im only 13 =S
but i wear contacts and they dont bug me just putting them in sucks
