Why did the optician ask this?!

Question: Ive just been for an eye sight test and the optician made a comment about how big my pupils are and then asked if i was pregnant. No one has ever commented on this before.

Are the two things related or was the question nothing to do with the comment?

Were you high? That's what he probably thought. If you weren't, and he didn't press it, don't worry about it. :)

Your pupils usually dilate when you take drugs, maybe she was concerned that if you are pregnant you shouldn't really be taking drugs

I believe he asked this because some medications make that happen and he dont want you to be one meds that may harm your baby.

hes just a really caring doctor.

He asked if you were pregnant because eye tests done while pregnant are not accurate.

I think the two are related, your pupils also enlarge if you are attracted to someone, or with certain medication.

Your eyes tell a lot about your total physical health. Dilated pupils can be a warning sign of preeclampsia, a pregnancy complication marked by high blood pressure.

maybe she was worried that if you are pregnant you shouldn't be taking drugs without prescription etc etc.

Did you go to get your eyeglasses right after your exam? If the Doctor dilated your eyes for the exam it can take several hours and sometimes into the next day for your pupils to go back to normal. I know of no correlation between pregnancy and pupils, other than your vision can change while pregnant so an exam is not recommended at that time.

I hear hormones can sometimes do that to a person, so that might be why he was asking. How exactly it works, I'm not sure, but it's the same with some types of medication and drugs, so he has to check to make sure nothing else is wrong, I guess...
