I just received my progressive bi-focals and I hate them. With time, will I get !

Question: Well I'm going to go against the grain here.

I just gave up progressive bi-focals after wearing them for over 8 years.

Every time I got them they'd be great for about 6 months and then I'd notice I needed to take off my glasses to read. So I decided, if I need to take off my glassed to read, why the hell am I bothering with bi-focals?

Now, I have to say that my myopia is not that bad and my need for reading glasses when I wear contact is in the 1.5 range.

The biggest advice I would give is to remember to point your chin at anything you wish to see, moving your whole head. do not scan with your eyes through the different focus planes because you'll find yourself getting motion sick.

Since I do not get motion sick normally, this came as shock to me

Good luck.

I had those at one point and I know exactly what you mean. I think after a couple of days (week tops) you should be fine with them. If you aren't..go back to the eye doctor!

You sure will and you'll learn to like them to the point that you won't want anything else except maybe laser surgery.

Give it time. it takes a while to get use to them, You are always tilting your head up and down, right? Be careful when you step off a curb too. I say give yourself about 2 weeks, then if you still hate them, then go talk to your eye doctor.

when I first got mine they drove me crazy but you will learn how to use them and actually like them :)

Once you are accustomed to progressive bifocals, you'll love them. There's no line, but you have all of the advantages of bifocals. I work at the computer all day as a technical writer and progressive trifocals have made my life much easier. The top of the glasses are for distance vision, the middle area is for the computer, and the bottom for reading distance.

The only time I change to reading glasses is when I read in bed, because the focus changes when I am lying down.

Good luck. Hang in there a bit and I think you'll learn to love your progressives, too.

LOL...give yourself some time.

It usually takes about 10 days to 2 weeks to feel very comfortable with them, but there should be improvement everyday, and what bugs you now will slowly disappear.

If they are no better at all in 2 days, they may need more adjustments done to the frame to either raise or lower the reading area a touch.

Good luck with the bi-focals, it takes a while to get use to. I wonder though if you shouldn't have gotten tri-focals. Your lens would be divided for near, far and computer distance. I think tri-focals are great because when you shop price tags are easier to read. If you don't get use to them take them back and get an adjustment.

Like the other responders have said, progressives do take time. Check where you got them, usually progressive lenses have a non-adapt warranty. That means if you try and cannot get used to them you can generally have the lenses changed to some other type of lens at no charge within a specified period of time. If you use the computer for several hours at a time, you might consider a separate pair just for that. It has the computer distance in the top and near in the bottom. This can be done with and without a line.
