Thinking about getting contacts?!

Question: I've been wearing glasses for about 10 years now and I want to switch to contacts. What's the best brand? Is there a way around eye drops (I don't like things touching my eye)? How much do they cost, and how long do they last?

There isn't really a "best brand" when it comes to contacts. Everyone's eyes are different, so what works well for someone else may not work so well for you. You and your eye doctor are really the only ones who can ultimately decide what brand/type of contacts suit you best.

You don't HAVE to use eye drops if you don't need them. They are just handy to use if you experience dryness while wearing your contacts. There are actually some contact solutions out there that help the contacts retain moisture as you wear them. I now use either Alcon Opti-Free RepleniSH or CibaVision Aquify, and they both work so well that I don't hardly ever need my eye drops now.

The cost of your contacts will vary, depending on what brand you get, and what length of wear they are. Generally, the daily wears are the cheapest, then the bi-weekly, then monthly, and then yearly. So they could cost you anywhere from $10 on up into the $100s. If you are concerned about price, just talk with your eye doctor, and let him/her know some sort of price range that you'd like to stay within on purchasing your contacts. How long they will last you all depends on what type you get. Your eye doctor will explain everything about the contacts you will be getting, such as how long to wear them, and how to care for them.

You can get contacts without vision insurance. I don't have any vision insurance, and wear the Freshlook colored contacts. So they run me $30ish per box of 6 lenses, and the Freshlooks are made to be worn for 2 weeks, then thrown away. The clear contacts are usually cheaper than colored though, especially if you go with a daily or bi-weekly disposable.

You can always go to 1800contacts.com and check some prices on contacts, just to get a general idea of how much you could be looking at spending on them. That site has great prices, and really fast shipping if you do end up getting contacts.

the best brand is acuvue
i do not use eye drops
i clean my contacts after taking them out
about 100 $ for a years supply
some last 6 months some last one month some last 1 day

I strongly recommend getting contacts. Just got them and I love them. I am mad that I waited so long.

I wear Acuvue and I have had zero problems.

For cost, I cant remember off the top of my head, but I was charged $128 for 4 boxes. However, I dont know if that included doctor fees.

No insurance is needed.

I personally use Acuvue Hydroclear because of my dry eyes. I'm not sure if it's the "best" but it's all I've used for the 6 years that I've had contacts. No complaints so far. You'll get used to things touching your eye because you'll have to put them in and take them out everyday.

I think they're about $13-$15 a box. Unfortunately my vision is different in each eye so I have to get two different boxes.

I don't have insurance but I think that $15 a box is pretty affordable. Ok, well...my parents pay for them haha. But if you're tired of glasses I think you should give it a shot. They're comfortable, can't even feel them in your eyes and it's nice not to have glasses weighing your face down.

Good luck!
