Getting contacts soon......tips?!

Question: For the past few years, I have been (supposed to) wear glasses. I do not like touching my eyes at all & get freaked out at the thought, but, I absolutely HATE having to wear glasses (or more like carry them in my purse).

Can anyone please give me tips on how to make it a more pleasant experiance?

Any tips on putting them in, and also how to take them out?

I know that you cannot wear them to bed, but, any other restrictions?

i work at an optometrist office. its deff at every office but they basically pre-screen you doing a couple of preliminary tests. Then the doctor does the exam on you and decides which lens will be best for you.(this part takes about 20 mins total) Someone at the office will teach you how to insert and remove the contact lens from your eye. (this takes a long time depending on how well you handle the contact and if you can touch your eye). After you get them in and take them out...you may try on colors as well. i dont like color lenses but if i had to recommend a color i would say av2 warm honey, hazel or jade green. Jade green is my fave.

contacts don't hurt. just don't abuse them. dont sleep shower or swim with them. and don't wear them longer than the prescribed time (example if its a 2 week lens wear them for two weeks taking them in and out every night and chuck em when two weeks are up and put a new lens in.)

you just have to make sure you are allowed to wear colors bc everyone's prescription is different so whatever the doc tells you...he's most likely correct.

i love cl's. i love my glasses more but i wear av moist 1-days. they are the best for whenever i wanna pop in a lens for a day.

if you want to practice before you go...i suggest you practice touching your eye with your finger but MAKE SURE YOUR HANDS ARE CLEAN!!!!

also...when you go don't wear make-up bc then it will get irritated.

also remember...put the contacts in first...then put the makeup on...take the cls out...then take your make-up off...

ok hope it helps

good luck!! =)

Putting them in the wrong eye has to be the worst. I always do the right one first and all that's left is left.

I was in the same boat as you regarding contacts. I had worn glasses for 4 years and I was tired of them, but I am very squimish and did not like the idea of touching my eye to put in contacts. The first time I went in to try them out I chickened out and wasn't able to do it. There is a person there that guides you through it and shows you themselves how to put in the contacts, and she told me to "practice" touching my eye to get used to it. I finally gathered up the courage the 2nd time going in and just stuck it in without really thinking about it, and it really wasn't that bad at all, and I think I got myself worked up just thinking about it more then anything.
Oh, and it depends on what kind you get but you may be able to wear them to bed. You can get daily ones that only last a day, or ones that last a month (that are taken out each night), or ones that you can leave in for a month or more at a time, including at night. Talk to your optomistrist about your best option, personally I went with the ones that last a month that are taken out each night and I love them.

Contacts get dry a lot. make sure you carry some opti-free or something around in your purse at all times or your contact could just fall out.

i just got new contacts and the doctor said that renu is bad for your eyes because the stuff they put in it to kill germs is actually really toxic over time and can burn when you put your contacts in.

also, try getting acuvue lenses-they are thin, you canbarely feel them, and they let a lot of oxygen get to your eyes! really good stuff :)

good luck!

First off welcome to the contacts club!!!! YEAH!!! The first time you place them in and remove them is going to suck and be hard:

1) just remember to use a mirror and look up.

2) When ever your near water (ocean, shower, pool, etc) take them out for the change in solution of salt can major miss it up and cause it to pop out.

3) Wash your hands ALWAYS when touching it.

4) If your "lose" it in your eyes close your eye and get near a mirror, if you try to look for it in the open it might pop out and you could lose it.

5) Always wash them.

6) Sunglasses are a must.

Hope you have fun with your contacts...

dnt wear them in the swimming pool! thtz one tip! and also dnt keep them in for more than 12 hours

Make sure that you are putting them in right. If they are going in inside out then it can hurt alot. Your eye doc will show you what is inside out.
