Why can't I wear my hard contacts anymore?!

Question: I started wearing hard contacts since I was 19. I am now 50 and I haven't been able to wear my contacts. I am very near-sighted with astigmatism and the Dr. never recommended soft contacts. They feel very dry and almost like the bottom edge is resting on the bottom rim of my eye. They are so uncomfortable almost to the point that makes me nauseous. What is going on? I don't want to wear my glasses. The Dr. said I have to wear them a couple hours a day, increasing the wearing time, but I can only wear them 1 to 3 hours. I'm not ready to consider lasik surgery yet. I also have a problem with sinus pressure on my eyes.

I'm in my late 40s and have run into a similar problem. I can no longer wear soft contact lenses for more than a few hours at a time. This is after being able to wear them for extended periods of time for more than 20 years. My eye care specialist says I have dry eyes, which is a common symptom of aging. That's why it has become harder for me to wear contact lenses. I'm not a good candidate for laser eye surgery because of this dryness. I just make do with my glasses, which still work quite well for me. I also am very nearsighted and have not developed presbyopia so I don't need bifocals.

Missing some info to give a response of any use.

Are they new lenses you have now ?

Have they been fitted recently ?

Did you go a long time without wearing any ?

Have you been back to inform him you can't wear more than a couple of hours ?
