Is there any time period someone should wait to fly after having a?!

Question: retinal detachment?

Answers: retinal detachment?

You should not fly while you have the gas bubble in place. Once it is gone you should be fine , approx 2/3 months and you'll be good to go. See your specialist beforehand though!!

If you have a gas bubble placed in your eye, or a total air/fluid exchange during surgery, you'll need to wait till it's almost gone to fly or even go up on the mountain.

If it's a large bubble, and you go up to an altitude where the atmospheric pressure of air is half normal, that air bubble will be twice as large. With that sudden rise in volume, the eye can't eliminate the fluid fast enough to keep the pressure low, and you'll get an eye with way too much pressure.. and that HURTS, as well as possibly shutting off the central retinal artery which would basically destroy the retina...sort of a stroke.
