How do I know if my eyeglass prescription is right?!

Question: I just got my first set of prescription glasses. I got them because my distance vision was not crystal clear, but is still quite good.

When I look through the left or the right lens alone, with the other eye closed, everything looks great. However when I'm looking through both eyes normally, things just seem a little off. I don't really know how else to describe it.

Is this normal? Do my eyes need to adjust to the new glasses?

Try wearing them for a few days before you go storming into your eye doctor's office. If this is your first set of glasses, it could take up to a week or two to get fully used to wearing them. Try to wear them as much as you can for at least a week. If you notice no little or no improvement, then call up your eye doctor and explain to them what is going on. But if you've never worn glasses before, there certainly is an adjustment period for sure, and it may take longer for that reason.

You should really go back to your optometrist. Tell him/her exactly what you said, that looking with both eyes isn't right. They should adjust them to be exactly right. I'm sure you paid a lot of money for prescription glasses ( I know I did!), so it's the optometrist's job to see that they are right for you. They should not charge you for this.

When you first get glasses, it can be very much like getting contacts for the first time. Your eyes will need time to adjust to wearing either of the two. Give it about two weeks...if you still aren't seeing things as clearly as you feel like you should, by all means call your eye doctor back, so they can have you come in and check your prescription, and the glasses. Everyone makes a mistake at times...just give yourself some time to adjust before you go get re-checked.
