My contact is bugging me...?!

Question: Ok I've had contacts for like 8 months now and they've been fine. Now all of the sudden my right eye is prickling like there's an eyelash in there. I have taken my contact out four times and cleaned it, I have flushed out my eye and everything. My eye is fine when my contact is out, it's just prickly when the contact's in there. I have -7.5 vision in that eye so walking around with only one contact isn't much of an option and I cannot find my glasses. Does anyone know what could be wrong with me? My eye doctor's closed otherwise i'd phone her :) Thank you!

**And yes I know I should always have my glasses handy... I just moved and it's in a box somewhere... any HELP would be appreciated.

It is possible you have a full thickness micro tear in the lens. Small full thickness tears can be very uncomfortable and also very difficult to see with the naked eye.

I think you need to give your eye a rest if possible. You may have scratched your eye or have a tear on your contact. You could also get a new contact lens for that eye.

This happened to me a couple times...having had contacts for several years. You could have eye irritation or a scratch on your contact. Sometimes the contact can be scratched and you can't really see it...or have an edge that is folded strangely.
The best thing to do is to take it out for tonight and try to put it in tommorow.
If it still hurts then throw it out and put in a new one.

Sounds like you've got a tear. Typically, if it were a fuzz, etc., it would've rinsed out by now and if there is a tear, the whole in/out again routine will just make it worse.

Also, you should think about weather or not an allergy med or the pill may have caused your eyes to be dry, causing the tear. I only mention this b/c I spent a lot of $$ on replacement contacts before I was able to figure out what the issue was.

Toss it and try again.

Good luck!

Chances are you have a defect on your lens. The easiest way to test it out is to try it on the other eye. If that eye feels 'prickly' too, then of course it's the contact. If not, you may have irritation underneath the eyelid.
