What do you think of laser eye surgery??!

Question: I was talking to my cousin yesterday about laser eye surgery - she got it done a month ago and highly recommends it - she said it wasnt painful AT ALL or uncomfortable as they numbed her eyes before they did it and it only took 15 mins! She had to use lots of eye drops but the next day she was outside in the sun with no sunglasses and said it was amazing how much she can see and it was pain free! (she had the one done where they cut the top clear part of your eye)

have been wearing glasses and contacts for years and feel like they get worse and worse every time i go to check my prescribtion - i prefer contacts but they are expensive - should i get this done?? Has anyone else got this done???
thanks!

Yes, definitely get it done. Contacts will eventually end up costing more because you will have to replace them over and over again, but laser surgery is only done once.

I'm 13 and my dad got it. He was basically blind and ever since he got it he's had perfect 20/20 vision. He had to keep his eyes closed for a couple of days and had to wear these dorky thick glasses for a week, but I think it's worth it.

It is a great procedure! but it is uncomfortable for a day, and VERY VERY unwise not to wear sunglasses, in fact they say to always wear sunglasses after having it done

I wish I could afford it or had insurance that would pay at least a portion of it.

I know of a handful of people who have had it and love the decision they made!

I have not, but I know a few people who have and said it was great. Make sure that you find out how many of these surgeries the doctor has performed and the results or errors. Ask the doctor how long he has been doing it, what his success rate is and what is error rate is. I always ask these questions. If they are offended, too bad and see someone else. It's your body, your eyes.

Although it is a life changing experience, it can sometimes go wrong which has often put me off the idea. But it depends whether you feel confident enough in your contacts and glasses, as you prefer contacts I would recommend laser eye surgery. But if you decide not to, your eye's prescription will steady down in time.

I've had luck with it. I don't know about the "not uncomfortable" part though. I had a bit of a lag in picking up my pain meds/sedatives after the surgery and the numbing drops wore off before I had them in my system. It was bearable, but definitely uncomfortable. After my 6 hour "nap" you take afterwards though I was perfectly fine as long as I kept up my eye drops. You learn to not forget them VERY quickly. The first few weeks are annoying with all the drops you have to put in your eyes, but better than getting an infection. I was pretty much all healed up and not needing any drops around the 5 month point.

mabey you should just continue with contacts. Then you can wear glasses when you want and contacts when you want. you can use glasses as a accessory

Fabulous! Life altering! Would definitely do it again!
