I spend a lot of time at my computer...my poor eyes?!

Question: any recommendations on how to stop my eyes from aching from staring at the computer screen all day?

What are good herbal teas, or ointments, exercises..anything..I HAVE to work at my comp all day so have no choice..

Thank you.

Make sure to take breaks for your eyes often and stare at something else, anything... desk, floor, coffee cup, whatever. Just get your eyes off the computer screen for a bit.

Another good tip is to change the brightness and contrast on your computer screen. If it's very bright, that hurts your eyes too. Make it dimmer and your eyes will thank you. (But not too dim that it's hard to read). You didn't specify what kind of computer you use, but if you have a regular desktop computer, there should be buttons right on the monitor to adjust brightness and contrast. I'm still trying to figure out how to do it on a laptop; on mine, I just change the power settings to make it dimmer...

And make sure you blink a lot. I've realized I have a habit of not blinking very often when on the computer so my eyes get very dry and that makes it worse. Might be good to have some eye drops handy too. And if you wear contacts, you might want to have a case and some solution handy and take your contacts out once in awhile, and let them soak a bit then clean them off before putting them back in. Perhaps over your lunch break or something you can take them out and switch to glasses.

Text also makes a difference (I learned this in my technology class)... It is easier to read "sans serif" prints on the computer (meaning "straight" characters, like on this page: like the font "Arial"). "Serif" fonts, like Times New Roman is easier on the eyes in physical print but not so much on the computer. So if you need to do a lot of reading of typing, try switching to arial (if you can, like on Microsoft Word), you can always switch back to Times New Roman before emailing or printing a document.

Make sure you take time to look at other things too. Like [paper] newspapers, books, etc. I realized that I am on the computer so much that I kind of have a hard time focusing on physical print now, so it might be good exercise for your eyes to focus on things other than the computer.

I think my eyes are probably bad too.
I'm on the computer alllll the time.

you can get glasses designed for computer use some are even tinted for glare. see your eye store.

Also, flat screen LCD monitors are better for your eyes than older larger model that flicker a lot.
