Prescription Sunglasses?!

Question: If I have a regular pair of sunglasses and I need prescription, can I just take them to the eye doctor or do they have to be a special pair?

You can buy your own sunglasses (from anywhere) and then just put in prescription lenses. Just stop by an optical and show them the your frame and they can quote you a price. If you buy those HUGE sunglasses that have significant curve it might be a problem though.

bring them in and see what they say. It all depends on the type of frame it is. If they were purchased originally at an optical shop then they might be able to. Some regular eyeglass manufacturers make non-Rx suns that lenses can be made for. If you got them at the dollar store or department store, then it's likely no. Those frames are usually not prescription friendly, and if they are inexpensive and you break them, you will have a hard time finding another frame to fit your expensive prescription lenses.

You can have new lenses placed into old frames. Yor optical dispenser will usually try to talk you out of it...less profit for him.
EDIT:
TK33 has the right of it.
