After-effects of cataract operation?!

Question: My mom underwent cataract operation 3 years ago. She is still experiencing symptoms like dry eyes, poor night vision and feels tired after reading for 5-10 minutes. she also experiences burning sensation in her eyes too often. What could be the reasons for this? Any suggestions from ophthalmologists around here?

The first question is, Has she been having her yearly check ups? Even though she's had cataract surgery, it doesn't mean she needs to skip out on yearly check ups. Also dry eyes is a common problem in patient's who have had cataract surgery. She may need to use an artificial tear drop up to 4-6 times per day. Also how old is your mom? The night driving and tired eyes is common in anyone over 40 whether they've had cataract surgery or not.

You have to think of your eyes like this: When your 10yrs old, your eyes are 10 yrs old. When your 60, you have 60 yr old eyes. Your eyes lose some accomodation as they get older and this is a normal part of the aging process.

Many have the misconception that once you have cataract surgery, everything is fixed. This is not the case. Your eyes still age whether you've had cataract surgery or not.

Cataract surgery just replaces your old "cloudy" lens with a nice new clear lens.

My eyes are frequently dry. I was told to use eye drops 4-6 times a day after my surgeries.

I had night vision problems long before I had cataracts.

She needs to see her eye doctor for answers.

AT is right. I had cataract surgery about 23 years ago. (I'm 40 now). Since then, my eyes get very dry and sometimes I tear a lot. My night vision isn't the best. Reading doesn't bother me unless I do it for a long time. A lot of times my eyes burn too, but I have allergies that causes them to get red and burn. In one eye, I still have pain in my eye because it was a difficult eye to work on. But all of those drawbacks are minor and worth it, now that I can see. 2D
