Contacts that hide a corneal scar??!


Question: OUt of curiosity..there are people who have 'corneal scarring' on one eye and the other eye is normal. Are there 'color contacts" that the person can put on the eye with the scar so it could look "normal"....this is a real mystery to me....or if they are...are u allwoed to do that? or what....

There are.
With a blue or light grey iris they're not normally necessary as the white/grey corneal scar is almost invisible at normal distances anyway.

With a brown iris the white spots are more obvious, and tinted lenses, iris print lenses and hand-painted lenses can each be useful in individual cases.

If the corneal scar is sufficiently large and central as to obscure all fine vision (but a corneal graft is not being considered) then contacts are available with a black pupil to provide the *appearance* of a normal pupil, but of course, this would not have any optical function. .

i have scarring on my cornea, but it's not noticable at all. i haven't heard of really bad cases at all. but you cant see mine w/ the naked eye.

It would depend on how visible your scarring is. We have had some patients come in with light corneal scarring and get colored contacts to cover it up.
