I had cataract surgery when I was 17 which was over twenty years ago. Cataract surgery has come so far since then. Now it's done at a center and they don't put you to sleep at all. When I had my surgery, I was admitted into the hospital and put to sleep. Since I was put to sleep there were more risks involved. But really it wasn't scary at all. At that time, they didn't put the implants in my eyes, like they do today. So you should get good vision within a few days. It's not painful at all. Ten years after I had my cataracts removed, I had the implants put in and I did it at a surgery center and wasn't put to sleep at all. This will be similar to the procedure you will have. I could speak to the doctor while he was performing the surgery. I do have some memories of the procedure, but it's mainly a blur. Like I said, it's not painful at all. I would do it again in a heartbeat if I had to without hesitation. In fact, it's one of the most common procedures with a very low risk. My vision is great now compared to my 20/200 vision with correction before surgery. You won't be able to bend or lift for a couple of weeks and you'll have to wear a patch over your eye at night while you sleep. That's to keep you from rubbing or scratching your eye. Usually you won't need to take any pain medication and if you do, Tylenol usually works well. I wish you well and I'm certain everything will be fine, especially if it's only in one eye. I had them in both eyes. If you have any questions please feel free to email me and I will be more than happy to answer them. It's ironic, I've never known anyone like me who had cataracts at a young age. 2D

Well, any surgery is scarey, but cataract surgery is such a routine thing now. You will be in and out in no time.

They will give you a pill that kinda makes you drowsy, so you won't even care what they are doing...lol

There is no pain while they do it of course, and only a bit of discomfort after because of the clamps they used.

Don't worry too much about it...you will be fine...and best wishes to you.

the whole procedure onl takes less then 10-15 minutes per eye. you won't be asleep, that's probably the scariest part. because you get to see the whole procedure of cutting open your cornea etc. the local aneasthetis that they apply on your eye will not let you feel any pain.
