Eye Glass Prescription?!

Question: I just had an eye exam yesterday (after four years, apparently). My prescription reads:
OD = -1.50 -0.75*135
OS = -0.75 -1.00*45

My doctor said I went from 20/50 to 20/100 in the four years and that even though my eyesight got worse it wasn't that drastic when you consider the time difference.

And I do have astigmatism (I've had it for years but I know something in those 2nd and 3rd numbers explain it better).

My questions are:
How bad are these numbers really?
Did he mean both eyes are 20/100 with these numbers or did I miss something and one of the eyes is better?

Thanks in advance.

You have low to moderate shortsightedness with a fairly small amount of astigmatism. The right eye is more shortsighted than the left. You will probably find you need to wear glasses most of the time, and you will definately need them for driving.
The first number describes the amount of shortsightedness, the second the amount of astigmatism, and the third describes the direction of the astigmatism. OD means right eye, OS means left.
Shortsightedness tends to keep getting worse while you are young, it usually stops progressing in your 20's or 30's.

I don't think that your vision is that bad. My prescription is right eye: -4.25 and left eye: -3.75

these numbers do not give much of required information as to what extent the visual acuity has been improved to help the normal vision,your doctor must have meant the priminary examination has gone from 20/50 to20/100, reading the chart with out glasses, the above said information gathered and correct to either normal vision with number you have mentionedor to some deficet as of not improving, but such a not improving status you have not mentioned, hence the_1.50and -0.75 are small correction and astigmatic angles mentioned are small defects that to a siccor cuting style,mostly a geneticaly based one,.anyway, wearing glasses constantly is your job, to prevent the gross devolepment in minus number for the both eyes.

Those numbers aren't too bad for nearsighted people, but as I have around 20/100 I wouldn't consider them too good either. Vision acuity is a little subjective when you compare refraction error to vision acuity. There is no way I can accurately look at your refraction error and give a corresponding vision acuity. I can say that your OD looks significantly worse than your OS. Which I might assume that your doctor gave you a reading for the OD eye compared to 4 years ago. I am suspicious that your OS is 20/100 because -.75 refraction error should be around 20/40 if you eliminate the astigmatism. But -1 astimatism on your OS eye could make a couple lines worse maybe to 20/70. I just recently got -.5 astigmatism correction and the difference doesn't seem to be that huge. Hope I helped you!
