hello,
Transition lenses are nothing but a type of Photochromatic Lenses.

pros: they offer almost a hundred percent UV protection and they look freaking cool!

cons: they are expensive and normal CR-39 lens with multi coat offers almost the same amount of UV protection.
after some time, say half a year, the response to UV light slows down and the time it takes to change to transparent or dark increases, depending on whether you use glass or plastic lens. i would say it's not worth the money

Pros: UV Protection (similar to other polarized sunglasses), cost and convenience (don't have to pay or keep up with sunglasses as well as prescription eyeglasses). Cost is a biggie, since prescription polarized sunglasses will run you a few hundred bucks, and Transitions will only run you ~ $80 extra.

Cons: Many people say they don't darken enough, and they will most likely not darken in the car, since most windshields block out UV. I haven't heard many complaints at all about time to transition indoors/out (the newer Transitions do it very quickly, but 10 years ago that wasn't the case). Also, over time (years) they will always have a slight tint, which only looks strange if you get one new lens and keep an old one, but the transition time doesn't really change much over time.
