I have to agree with you hat the teacher was very foolish to point the laser at you. Eye damage from lasers happens through an increase in temperature in the interior of the eye. A lot of the risk of eye damage depends on the strength of the laser beam, and a powerful laser can cause damage in a fraction of a second. The colour of the beam also determines the risk of eye damage. There have been reports of retinal damage from the use of laser pointers, but there is very little written in medical journals about laser pointers specifically causing damage. Most of what I found when I did a search was referring to damage caused by industrial or medical laser beams, which are many times more powerful that a laser pointer.

You should be reassured that the laser in pointer devices used in presentations or in the classroom are very low power beams, and very unlikely to cause eye damage from a quick flash. If you should notice any change in your vision over the next day or so, or if you find that your eyes become sensitive to light (you may notice yourself squinting or shading your eyes in the light), please see an eye doctor right away. Even if it is unlikely that you have suffered eye damage from the laser pointer, you are right to be concerned. A split second of poor judgment on the teacher's part can cause you a whole heap of worry.

You might also like to have your folks check with the school board to ask about their policy regarding laser pointers in the classroom. If there is a policy against using them, the teacher needs to be reminded of that. Good luck - although I really don't think you need it in his case. But you are right - stupid teacher! Their actions may have made them feel better for a moment if you were talknig in class, but look at the concern their actions brought you! Not exactly an even trade!

I dont think anything will happen to your eyes

it wont really hurt your eyes unless it is exposed to the laser for more than 30 second .

Is it a laser pointer? Those aren't good to look directly at. Lasers you find at a grocery store are prettly low power and aren't that dangerous to glance at. Laser pointers are a little higher power and can damage your eyes if you look at it directly especially for more than a second. You probably are fine if it it was a second or less but its not a good idea to look at them at all. Your teacher should know better.
