Who here has had lasik?!

Question: I am 24 years old, have near sighted -3.something eyes and have been thinking about getting lasik for some time. I talked to my eye doc today and she told me it is by no means a one time procedure, and that I would need to get a new surgery everytime i would need a new prescription...which right now is about once a year. I need to know if that is true about lasik and if it's worth it in the end??

I was 24 when I had the surgery myself. I'm 25 now and have not had any problems. My eye sight was a little worse than yours was. There is a possibility that I will have to get an enhancement done IF my eyes change, but my prescription has not changed in a year. Some places have free enhancement packages so if down the road you needed it, it's free. To me, this was the best investment I have ever made. I no longer rely on glasses or contacts, it's AWESOME. Halos around lights at night are a side effect, but it's not that bad. I still drive at night without problems. My eyes do get dry from time to time, but I just put in lubricating drops and it's fine. When I get older I will still need reading glasses.... but it's fine with me. I got mine done at Lasik Plus. My grandma had lasik

If you're changing prescriptions every year, you at least want to hold of until your prescription steadies a bit, which likely will be soon, since there usually isn't a ton of change in diopters between 20-something and 40. I think many doctors recommend 2 yrs. of no change before photoablation.

The best thing to do is to wait for your eyes to stablize first then get the procedure done. Technology is very advanced now and it can get your eyes perfect to 20/20. However, if you eyes have not stablized, it would be a shame that you spent 900 dollars / eye to get it done but to have it deviate again. My best bet is to wait until you are done school. Most of the change is a result of reading and studying.

The general rule is that you have to wait for 2 years with no prescription change before your eyes are stable enough to undergo the procedure.

It doesn't fix your eye sight 100%. I would google Lasik and get more information as well. Some of my friends got Lasik and did okay. No problems.
But there is always that" risk" in any invasive procedure one gets done. I have been wanting Lasik myself.
I just need to get the courage to do it. I guess I am satisfied with what little vision I have...if it gets worse, then I may make the decision to have it. Talk to a Doctor that does the Lasik.
You asked a great Question...and I am curious as to what others will suggest...Thanks for sharing!
