What is the difference between prescription glasses and reading glasses?!

Question: they sell reading glasses at walmart and my mom bought a pair because she had trouble reading stuff, when I tried them on, they just magnified what I was reading but didnt actually make it less blurry, so do real prescription glasses magnify just like reading glasses, or they will just make it less blurry while not magnifying it

prescription glasses come in many forms. they can help u see better in distance (myopia or hyperopia), at near (presbyopia or old sight like ur mum) and also a combination of seeing both distance or near also known as progressive lens.

the difference is that prescription glasses are fitted solely to a specific individual but for those ready made reading glasses, they come in powers which the majority has and it s not custom made. besides that, other optical defects like astigmatism (distortion of vision) and stuff cannot be corrected with ready made glasses. only with a proper eye test can we use the degree of astigmatism and old sight ect that the patient is suffering from

and yes, real prescription glasses magnify the words so that ppl with old sight can see their reading materials better.

Prescription glasses are given by a optometrist which are specially made for your eyes...therefore improving your vision.

Reading glasses they sell at local stores are for magnification only and will not improve your vision....just make the words larger.

Reading glasses are only for those who cannot read small print anymore, often around age 40 and up..the muscle gets weak behind the eye, therefore focusing is harder!

Prescription glasses are for folks who have bad eyes..like they can't see far away..so they have what is called "near-sightedness ---
& those who cannot see people across the room have "far sightedness"---
both people will need glasses..prescription ones'''
like driving and trying to read the signs coming up on the freeway (which is far) those folks need glasses when driving.
get it?

Perscription galsses will be designed just for your eyes...the doctor will test your eyes and give you the strength glasses that you need to be able to see 20/20...maybe even bifocals...where the bottom half of the lenses magnify what you read....if you need this.

The glasses your mom has are just magnifying glasses that one may wear as opposed to holding them with one hand while you read, plus cheaper than prescription reading glasses. They are sold over the counter and are of different strengths. Proper reading glasses are prescribed glasses. Many people have good distance vision without wearing glasses; however, for reading or close work proper reading glasses should be prescribed, especially if you do a lot of close work or reading as opposed to the over the counter magnifiers. The plus side of the magnifiers are more affordable to replace if lost or broken.
