Contact allergies, giant papillary conjuctivitis, and Lasik?!

Question: Wondering if anyone here has had an allergic reaction to their contacts (after years of wearing them...OR sooner) that led them to develop giant papillary conjunctivitis?

My ophthalmologist suspects this is what I have and I will see a corneal specialist next month to see if the damage is minor enough for me to get Lasik and do away with glasses entirely.

Curious...if you have had this have you had success at getting rid of symptoms? Have you been able to get Lasik later? Were you able to find a way to wear contacts despite the condition (i.e. different contact brand or different cleaning solution?)?

I'd simply love to hear about anyone else's experience with this.

I have suffered from GPC in the past. I don't think I was allergic to my contacts at all. I do have allergies that affect my eyes and I use a prescription eye drop for when my allergies flare up. As for the GPC I used medications and baby shampoo to cleanse my eyes with. Eventually it cleared up. I've been wearing contacts for over 20 years. 2D
