Do I need to throw out my 2 week contacts every 2 weeks even if I take them out !

Question: I just started wearing contacts a few months ago. I wear 2 week colors and acuvue oasys.
I take them out every night, sanitize them, and then put them in the next day.
My eyes actually get too dry when I sleep to even attempt to leave them in.
My question is this:
Do I need to throw them out after 2 weeks even though I take them out every night and sanitze them?
What type of affect will it have if I use them longer? (on my eyes and on the contacts)

2 week disposables are scientifically designed and engineered to give optimal health benefits for the 2 weeks of wear they are prescribed for. It can vary a couple of days of course, they don't just fall apart at the 14 day limit.

But within a couple of days past the 2 week period, the lens matrix has already started getting plugged up, blocking the flow of oxygen to your corneas. No matter how well they are cleaned, the material has been compromised by protein and calcium.

They may still feel comfortable for another week, but your cornea is being deprived of oxygen. You can't feel that happening...in the short term.

Monthly disposables can usually be stretched out for another 2 or 3 weeks with no real problem, but the 2 week lenses are thinner and deteriorate a lot faster after the equivalent of 14 days wear.

Depriving the cornea of oxygen for several hours a day, for days on end will cause long term problems like infections, corneal infiltrates...lots of fun stuff...lol

It is much safer not to make 2 week lenses last more than the 2 weeks they are made for.

That is 14 days wearing time though, if you only wore them 8 days out of 14, they are good for another 6...

My friend would use them just like you. She took very good care of them and followed all directions. She got about a month out of hers. She said the quality of her vision would start diminishing as time went on til she used a new pair. She was a college student so she tried to stretch out the use as best she could to save money. Please use caution when doing this to prevent infection, etc.

ok so we all KNOW that we should throw our contacts out when we're supposed to...

but come ON. they're expensive as hell and they last a lot longer than 2 weeks (or in my case a month). as long as they're clean they're fine in my opinion.

you'll know when you need to throw them out cos they'll either split when you are handling them or you wont be able to see properly out of them :)

edit:
you'll also find it really hard to get them in when its time to chuck them out! i dunno why, but when mine need chucking out they just refuse to go in properly, and thats usually when i end up splitting/ripping the lense

Yes, throw it away after the 14days of opening. regardless of the wearing timing.
